Where Can I Ride?
+ Broken Arrow Trail (Experienced Riders Only)
One of the most popular trails in all of Sedona, Broken Arrow is Sedona's quintessential off-road trail, offering unbeatable slick rock obstacles nestled among the towering red walls of the surrounding landscape. Many would argue this trail offers the best views in Sedona, which makes it popular for all types, including hikers, mountain bikers, and off-roaders. The grip of the rock and easy-to-follow track makes this one of the easiest trails on which to experience heart-pounding ascents, descents, and cross-axle ditches in relative safety. However, inattentive or careless driving can have significant consequences amidst the cliffs and large crevices on this trail. Pay attention, and you'll enjoy one of Arizona's best off-road tracks. In addition to steep ascents and descents, expect tight turns through trees, narrow trails which may require you to back up while meeting oncoming traffic, and large crevices that challenge approach and departure angles. The most significant obstacle, however, is the Devil's Staircase. This series of ledges requires a good amount of ground clearance and is packed with rocks and holes that add additional difficulty. The best path to follow is the well-worn track down the middle used by the Pink Jeeps, but beware, once on the track, you will likely slide down step by step, even when applying full brakes. Take it very slowly and only go down this obstacle with the flow of traffic.
+ Devils Bridge OHV Trailhead
Cut the hiking time in half and ride to the Devils Bridge OHV trailhead! You will traverse through a mixture of sand, rock, and small ledges on the trail. You will have lots of other off-roaders and hikers on this trail until you pass the Devil's Bridge Trailhead. The trail turns to the left and is marked by a sign pointing the way to Van Deren Cabin. The trail turns to a sandy surface and leads to Dry Creek. Once you are at the creek crossing, there are two steep ledges that you must go down and up. Water may be present on this obstacle. After crossing the creek bed, the last 100 yards of this trail becomes very rough and rocky. There are two small hill climbs and descents with small ledges you must pass before you get to the parking area for Van Deren Cabin. A flat rock area marks the end of this trail and you are rewarded with an amazing view of the surrounding area. This is a great place to get out and take a short walk to Van Deren Cabin. This trail is only suited for 4x4s.
+ Robbers Roost
This road traverses a short mile to a gem of a hiking trail which leads to a popular cave called Robbers Roost. The road starts with a small climb that is rutted and requires 4WD to avoid tire spin. There are many rocky sections on this trail and some sneaky side wall busters, so keep your eyes on the road. In the last 250 yards, the road splits into two roads, both leading to the parking area. The road to the right is much more rocky than the road to the left. Be careful of hikers on the road who may be hiking to Robbers Roost. There is a small parking area at the end of this road. High clearance 4WD is advised. The weather may limit access to this road.
+ Outlaw trail to Honanki Indian Site
This backcountry loop provides impressive red rock formations as well as some cool Native American cliff dwellings. Honanki and its sister site, Palatki, were the largest cliff dwellings of the Red Rock country between AD 1150 - 1350. The Sinagua, ancestors of the Hopi, lived here preparing meals, raising their families, and making tools from stone, leather, and wood. Nearby they hunted for deer and rabbit, tended various crops, and gathered edible wild plants.
+ Sycamore Falls
Yes, there is a waterfall you can ride too! It is an amazing waterfall but it is not always flowing during dry times. The best time to go would be after a few days of heavy rain or snow.
